TAXI DRIVER – SLUTET

Inte att det behövs nämnas men filmen är ju fantastisk. Men slutet?

Scenen efter han blir nerskjuten, är det ett drömscenario? För i taxin har han samma frisyr som innan han spårad ut och han var en hjälte, vilket känns overkligt. Och sen de snabba klippen i backspegeln?
Vissa spånar om att det inte är en dröm utan det är verkligt och att de snabba klippen representerar att han när som helst kan spåra ut igen.
Men det känns inte helt rätt. Eftersom hela scenen var så skum. Dialogen stämde inte överrens med deras relation och det kändes som att det var så här Travis hade tänkt att det skulle bli. Typ att man fick se och tänka sig in i hur han tänkte när jag sköt alla på motellet. Hur han såg på situationen. Ganska intressant faktiskt.

Q: Speaking of Taxi Driver, there’s been a lot of debate recently – and I don’t know where it comes from – that the end of the film is a dream sequence, or that Travis is dead and the end of the film is his final dying thought.

Schrader: It’s a loop. The last shot is the first shot.

Q: Well, what people are saying is that from the moment where Travis is laying on the floor, covered in blood, and points at his head and does the gun clicking, after that he’s effectively dead and everything that happens is a dream sequence or he’s gone beyond or whatever –

Schrader: I could see where they could make that argument. That’s one of the fun things about complex works of storytelling art, is that they open themselves up to different interpretations. My interpretation at the time it was written is that it was a loop – it’s all beginning again. That he had failed this time, and he would succeed next time.
